A podcast of “No Tears for my Father” went live on April 12, 2015. In the Podcast, Simon Denman of the website, READERS IN THE KNOW, read the description from the back of my book, and then presented listeners with a short selection from the book. I listened, enraptured by Simon’s amazing interpretation of what I had written. I almost couldn’t believe that I had written those words. Simon brought my true story of incest to life in a way I never thought of having it done. And he did this promotion of my book at no charge. You can listen to Simon’s reading of my book at this link: http://www.readersintheknow.com/podcast/29
So why am I telling you about this now? Well this morning, Simon wrote to me, and most likely to the other authors whom he has helped promote through his podcasts asking for help. Here’s his message:
When I started our Listen Inside Podcast back in March, it had one goal: to recruit more readers to the site from the millions of Apple iTunes podcast subscribers.
But for this to happen, we need Apple to start seriously promoting the channel for us.
They will only do this however, if they see lots of interest, and for that, I need as many of you as possible to:
- Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes – Preferably THIS WEEKEND so Apple sees a sudden surge in interest.
- Rate and Review the channel (must be done from within the iTunes app).
- Start downloading and listening to some of the episodes via iTunes (not just the one for your own book).
- Share the links widely within your own networks.
Although I must say I’m thoroughly enjoying reading these excerpts from your books, it does take up a lot of my time, and so unless it starts attracting the thousands of new readers I was aiming for, I won’t be able to continue this free service for much longer. With twin toddlers and two businesses to take care of, time is unfortunately in scarce supply.
Authors who have made full use of these free recordings of excerpts from their books, by repeatedly sharing and promoting them through social media as well as on their websites, are seeing significant boosts in sales, so please help me to keep this free and genuinely useful service going.
I, for one, can attest to the value of the service Simon Denman is providing. Sales of “No Tears for my Father” shot up over the 48 hours following this podcast. I’m sure other authors had the same experience. Simon deserves to have iTunes promoting his channel. If this doesn’t happen, authors will lose a wonderful, free source of promotion for their books, and readers will not discover the great books listed at READERS IN THE KNOW. I, for one, would hate to lose this exposure and promotion. Promotion is expensive and time-consuming and thanks to Simon, this promotion costs me nothing.
So I’m asking my readers and fans to help Simon keep his podcast going for my sake and that of the many other talented writers out there. Slip over to the SUBSCRIBE link in Simon’s email and Subscribe. It’s FREE! Rate and review Simon’s podcast channel. And start downloading and listening to books captured so beautifully by Simon Denman. Thanks for your help.
